Brief Description: Sanding, drilling, & more work on pants.
Charlotte and I put in some elbow grease today by doing a lot of sanding on the wheel pant components. The main gear aft pant is much thicker at the split line than the foreward pant, therefore, I sanded the aft pants at the split line. I did not sand it all the way to the level of the fore pant because I wanted it to keep most of its strength for the nutplates that will be added. Filler will make up the difference. Charlotte sanded the intersection fairings that were reinforced with a layer of glass cloth. We did not use peel ply because we didn't have any, so she wore out her arm sanding. Filler will be her best friend!
After the sanding we drilled the main gear aft pants for the nutplates. We used the nutplate jig tool that greatly simplfies and speeds up the job. Tomorrow we'll rivet the nutplates to the main gear aft pants and countersink the fore pant for the Tinermann washers.
