Today I installed a power port on the copilot's side under and forward of the instrument panel. Instead of a cigarette lighter type port, I bought a BMW motorcycle Powerlet port ($19.95). It features a positive double prong connection to a variety of connectors. There is a cigarette type plug-in, an SAE plug for battery charging, a USB plug-in adapter for charging laptops and Apple iPods, etc. I wanted something that was a little more secure than just a cigarette lighter port.
I made an L bracket of 0.063" Al sheet and riveted it to the vertical strengthener by the CP's right leg. I then wired it to the Hot Battery bus fuse block. I used 14AWG wire to be good to 15A but I will put a 10A fuse in the block. We will be able to charge our cell phones as well as the Odyssey battery on the firewall. I intend to install another port on the pilot's side to be able to charge the other Odyssey battery on the cockpit side of the firewall.
Powerlet port with spring loaded cover.
Battery charging plug-in adapter.
Cover lifted and you can see two prongs for connecting tip of plug-in.
