Brief Description:  Call to Van's/Work on Canopy Screw Holes

I called Van's Builder Support and talked with Joe re installing the screws along the top row of the canopy skirts. He said that the C-660 row should be dimpled and the canopy should be machine countersunk. I also asked if it was worth installing screws and Tinnerman washers along the front bow, instead of the pop-rivets. He did not see any reason to switch to screws.

I dimpled the top row of holes in the C-660 with a #6 screw dimple die set. I had not enlarged the canopy holes yet, still #30 size, so I used the countersink bit in the cordless drill to countersink the holes with a block of wood backing the bit. I enlarged the canopy holes with the 5/32'' bit. I clecoed the skirts in place to check the fit. All of the holes had to be enlarged for the dimpled skirts. I used the #6 countersink bit and spent a lot of time drilling and checking the fit of the skirts.
