Number of Hours:  6.00
Manual Reference:
Brief Description:  A milestone achieved

This afternoon at about 4pm after receiving my provisional premit to fly, my 601XL took to the air for the first time with Paul Crowfoot (CFI and my test pilot for the event) at the controls.

I have to apologise for the size of the photos but it was the best I could do with the zoom lens from the viewing area. I was really nervous watching the take off, but that went away as the aircraft continued to climb out.

On climb out Paul reported the following;

Max RPM on climb at 60 knots 2600rpm
Max RPM strait and level (forgot to look at airspeed) 2800rpm there is always next time...

CHT in climb 280 degrees
CHT in cruse 250 degrees
EGT left rear in climb 1400 degrees
EGT right rear in climb 1200 degrees
EGT left rear in cruse 1200 degrees
EGT right rear in cruse 1200 degrees
Oil Temp in climb 90 degrees
Oil Temp in cruse 80 degrees
Oil pressure 3 psi (a little low) but still in the green

Cruse speed strait and level at 2400rpm 110 knots.
Tests where conducted for 30 minutes above the airport, at 3000ft AGL, but due to the hot conditions, 34 degrees C on the ground, Paul decided to call it a day. The standard NACA vents don't provide enough cooling air flow. I might need to put some extra vents in the bubble canopy that can be directed at the face of the pilot and passenger. I will also stick some removable sun shades to the roof of the canopy for the next flight.

An initial stall test was conducted and controls started to feel mushy at 40knots indicated, engine at idle and no flaps, the stall was not allowed to develop, this test will also happen next flight.

Trim inputs that were required;

Left aileron trim was required as the aircraft presented a slightly heavy right wing.
Rear elevator trim was required to fly strait and to relieve rear stick pressure.

Paul also reported that ho
