Brief Description:  Strut Cover (SC)

The usual strut cover is a prefab part that I never bothered with. I see no need for a carefully moulded part either. My cover is just some BID over flat foam. I'd made up quite a large piece of divinycell and glassed one side with BID a while ago. Just for times like these.

After doing a paper cutout and lots of fiddling I had the hole size correct which I then transfered to my now correct size piece. Once happy I glassed the reverse side.

Next up was floxing it in place. Well actually I just used micro, its way strong enough and I wanted to ensure the corners were filled and the piece in the right place too. That was some hot glue on the reverse side. Once cured I did 0.6" and one ply of BID tapes as much as to ensure it was air tight as anything else.

All done as you see in pic three and of course I have a huge gap for air to run through. Oh and I filled a little gap with some foam and glass near the gear doors so its just the one hole where the actuator goes through.

I have already spent ages making a fitting box to seal this up. Many many hours as you'll see in previous logs. BUT I think I might ditch it and just do a leather sock of some sort. Much lighter.
