Some time ago I bought a set of wheel pants for 5" tires for my flying plane. Michael, a VE builder, kindly made a set of molds from these. We then made a nice set of pants that were lighter than the original. I never put them on my plane and sold them off pretty cheaply, given all the work, to a fellow LE owner who needed a set.
I want lightweight yet very strong pants. I'm doing a three ply layup
1 Ply S Glass 288gsm 4HS 1 Ply Innegra 146gsm 4 Shaft Satin weave 1 Ply S Glass 288gsm 4HS
So the Innegra is in the middle captured by the S glass. Innegra is a bit like kevlar except you can cut it easily. It is very strong and extemely tear resistant which showed in a test piece I did. I could not break it apart. The S glass failed with extreme bending but the middle section could not be failed without cutting.
So far as you see in pic 3 I have the 4 parts for one pant. I have to clean up the molds and make the second set. Weight so far is 2lbs 2ozs for the pieces, untrimed.
