Brief Description:  Cabin Doors

I had to jump to this section at this point even though the CT isn’t even installed yet and temp install the door hinges because as part of the OHC install I have to locate and install the gas strut attach brackets (the struts hold the doors open). TO that you have to install the door hinges – gotta love all this chicken and the egg crap. Anyway, I dug out all of the parts and started with trimming the threads off of four AN3-21 bolts—these now become the hinge pins. I started to do this on my band saw and I all managed to do was dull my relatively new blade – bonehead move on my part. Switched over to my Dremel with a cutoff wheel and made quick work of the task. Then I paired up the hinges components forward and aft—this is critical to the movement of the doors. The plans clearly show which is which so it was no big deal and I marked them accordingly to insure they got positioned correctly on the CT. That was the next step—fab’d three .125 spacers to locate the hinges in the “pockets” of the CT so they could be drilled. Once a hole had been drilled I placed a bolt in each hole, removed the spacers so the hinges could pivot and aligned the hinges parallel to one another. I ended up have to remove a bit of the pocket walls next the hinge pin bolt heads so that the hinges had room to pivot as the fit was too tight to allow enough movement to align the hinges parallel. Once that was done I was able to determine the position for the strut brackets (they are centered on the aft hinges) and transferred that location to the OHC and made the cutouts. Finished up by priming the brackets.
