Manual Reference:  Match Drill Ribs
Brief Description:  Leading and Main Ribs get matched

When you finish drilling top and bottom template holes in the main ribs (except bottom 1-5 for now) you then use the template which I made from the wood (see picture) to precisely set the main rib and the corresponding leading edge rib together correctly. I was concerned about the drill chuck grinding away at the rib web so I used a 12 inch #40 bit. It bends easily and by guiding it with your other hand (fingers), you can drill straight through by using the matching holes you earlier drilled into the main rib flange. Use clamps and later regular clecos to keep the two flanges flush to each other and not able to bend while you push with the drill. These are all pilot holes that will get final drilled again with #30 drill before riveting. Thats a long ways off yet. As I am drilling I am thinking about a half dozen other things that have to happen before rivet time. I still need primer for production work. Still working that one out in my mind. Etching, urethane, etc. Need to get that moving. Need to order exhaust from Vettermans. Need to decide between Dynon, MGL or GRT. Need to order blank panel, NACA ducts, replacement J channel and ... get the picture?
