Brief Description:  Rudder Skeleton

Left on a friday night from PHL to SFO with a connecting flight to Eugene Oregon. The weather was bad, thunderstorms in the area. Got delayed 4 hours and missed two connecting flights to Eugene as a result. Got stuck in SFO. Luckily, hooked up with another guy who was in the same situation and we both found rooms close to the airport. Left the next morning at 6:10 am Saturday and made it in time for the Class start at 8:30. Found out that I was the only one in the class as two other guys cancelled out. Very nice, one on one training.

The first day we decided to go right into building the rudder since I wanted to keep the practice kit for introducing my children to the joys of aircraft building. Had about a hour of quick introduction by Wally and went right into working on the Rudder section. Worked throughout the day until around 5:00 pm and completed the following things:

1) dimpled rudder skins
2) cut, deburred and dimpled stiffeners
3) backriveted stiffeners to skin
4) riveted rudder skeleton

It's amazing how quickly the work goes when you have two seasoned aircraft builders working with you to eliminate the head scratching and making mistakes. Learned alot about drill bit sizes, dimpling techniques, deburring techniques and interpreting the blueprint plans and instructions.
