Brief Description:  Garage heater Gas line install

Initially spec out the gas line install to be flex line. After doing a little drywall discovery I found that there was a bearing wall in the garage that made running flex gas line a bad idea. Decided to bite the bullet and run black pipe throughout the garage area and transition to flex line once inside the house. This was a better approach and will ensure that the gas line is fully secure and immune to any inadvertent bangs or bruises. This took a bit longer but since I had the threading and cutting tools it went rather quickly. In the end I ran about 35 feet of ¾” black pipe and about 30 feet of flex line and tied back into the gas main.

Turned on the gas, bubble tested for leaks and fired up the heater. Worked like charm the first try. The heater got the garage from 55 degrees to 68 degrees in about 10 minutes, very nice. Not sure what the gas bill will be yet but at least I know that I can count on the heater to keep things warm throughout the coldest winter days in Jan and Feb. Getting itchy to start building the airplane vs. the shop. A few minor things to do in the meantime before the delivery….
