Brief Description: Adjust HS Rod End Bearing Lengths
The plans call out the dimension between the HS spar and bearing center of the 4 HS Rod End Bearings on the horizontal stabilizer. So, how do you measure these to make sure you have the correct extension.
I put a long AN3 bolt in the bearing. Then I tried to measure between the HS spar and the trailing edge of the bolt. It should measure the plans call out plus half the thickness of a AN3 bolt.
Image 1 shows my first attempt using my calipers. Did not work. The end of the caliper on the spar is a point, making holding the caliper perpendicular to the spar web impossible, thus measuring impossible.
Image 2 and 3 show a makeshift tool that has a square end on the spar web. Very easy to measure, no guess work. Got all bearings adjusted the same. I did ½ turn greater then the minimum distance. I love it when its not guess work, or trial and error.
