Brief Description:  Make drill bushings for drilling engine mount.

I still haven’t finished riveting up the fuselage. Stephanie and I team up on that now and then but still have the entire forward section to do. So, let’s drill the engine mount while the firewall is still removable.

I want to drill the engine mount now so that I can make a rotisserie. Also I’ll like to drill it now because the engine mount can still be removed. I’ll drill it straight down on the bench.

The engine mount attach holes are 3/8” but I wanted to step it up to either 3/16” or 1/4” for the rotisserie and final drill it to 3/8” later on. So, I needed some bushings. A quick trip to Nappa I found just what I needed to make the drill bushings. I bought 4, 12” long brake line tubes. Each fit inside the other.

Tube 1, 3/8” OD, 5/16” ID
Tube 2, 5/16” OD, 1/4” ID
Tube 3, 1/4” OD, 3/16” ID
Tube 4, 3/16” OD, 1/8” ID

I can start with a 1/8” bit, then a 3/16” and then a 1/4". Later on I’ll finish with a 3/8” bit or reamer.

I Made a total of 6 bushing sets that step down to 3/16” and are just a bit shorter the engine mount mounting tube. I made 1 bushing set that steps down to 1/8” and it’s a bit longer then the mount tube. I’ll use this longer bushing set for drilling and the shorter sets for mounting.

Am I over thinking this? I may be.
