I thought it would be a problem aligning the drill, drilling upward instead of waiting until the fuselage is flipped. It turned out to be OK. Turned out to be easy work and I had good alignment in both axis. Drilled first with a #40, then the larger #30.
Before I drilled I took time to see how my edge distance was going to turn out on the weldment and longeron. Sure don’t want regrets here for sure.
On the left side I pushed the gusset slightly inboard about 1/32” to get good edge distance on the weldment. I have a full ¼” of material on the weldment and 3/16” on the longeron. I think I went inboard a bit too much.
On the right I got 3/16” on the weldment and ¼” on the longeron just the opposite of the left side. Well, left and right have slightly different edge margins but both are acceptable and I’m good with it.
