Brief Description: Left spacer, baggage bulkhead and skin. Part 1.
The bottom of the baggage area bulkhead F-724, has a mini tab that gets 2 holes match drilled through the bottom skin and side skin just forward of the conical bend. The location of the holes drilled in the tab is a function of how your conical bend fits. The bulkhead is attached to the side skin, so if your conical bend fits tight then these holes will be pushed inward, minimizing the gap between the bottom and side skin just forward of the conical bend. If you conical bend fits such that you have a gap between the edge of the bottom skin and side skin, then the mini tab holes will be moved outward and a possible edge distance problem will occur. I’ve seen edge distance problems on this bulkhead mini tab on other logs and wanted to avoid it. Just make sure your happy with your conical bend and that the gap between the bottom and side skin just forward of the conical bend is small.
The gap between the bottom skin and bulkhead mini tab is also a function of how you’re your conical bend fits. If you bend is not sharp enough then your bottom skin will be lifted up creating a gap between the tab and skin. You make the bend sharper, or just put a spacer between the tab and skin. I choose to use the spacer. I ‘m tired of messing with the bend and I don’t want to risk creating a crack.
I used a 0.04” spacer on the left and machine counter suck the holes and included a third hole. On the right side I used a 0.02” spacer and dimpled the 2 holes. These spacers are thin so why not just bend the tab up to the skin? Well I don’t know. The tab route just seemed like the better thing to do.
