Brief Description: Locate and drill 4 lower holes in Vertical Stabili
4 holes go through the lower vertical stabilizer main spar. These holes also go through the fuselage tie down bar. The plans have you drill these 4 holes in the tie down bar and then later match drill the vertical stabilizer. But the bummer is two fold. 1 - You will have to drill from the inside of the fuselage outward. This means using a right angle drill. 2 - Will the hole exit the correct place on the vertical stabilizer main spar hinge. You will be blind drilling.
From way back when I built the vertical stabilizer I was thinking about how to drill these from the outside and how to perfectly locate the holes on the vertical stabilizer. So, until now I have left them un-drilled.
So, instead of drilling the tie down bar, I decided to drill the vertical stabilizer instead. This way I can avoid the tight space right angle drill and I can also better locate the holes through the vertical stabilizer spar.
Problem. Nowhere in drawing do they give dimensions on how to locate the se 4 holes on the vertical stabilizer. The hole dimensions are only on the tie down bar. What to do. I used several methods to locate these holes on the VS. I cross checked each method to make sure they all resulted in the same hole locations.
Image 2 shows the final dimensions I came up with on locating these 4 holes on the vertical stabilizer. Then I matched drilled them through scrap as usual.
