Watched the Alabama game on Monday... I did my Graduate work at Alabama... Lived in Tuscaloosa for 5 years as my wife finshed her 4 year degree. Roll Tide!!
Anyway... back to the important stuff... the RV-7A...!!! I completed the ground run for the Skyview case, and also the EMS / VP-X data grounds. During the system test... all was well for about 10 minutes then all of a sudden a full screen red X filled the screen with a big "EMS Failed" I looked at the EMS, red light was blinking normally, huh? I powered down, checked all the connection and tried again... 10 minutes late BOOM EMS Failed... After scratching my head for a few minutes, The only thing I could think of was the ground between the Engine and airframe... I have not run the permemant braided grounding strap yet. So I put a temporary jumper between the engine case and the main grounding block. Powered the system up, and guess what? Left the system on for 2 hours with no issues. I will test it a few more times to make sure this was the issue... OH YEA, the next thing on my list is to install the main engine grounding strap. lol
I am old school... But slowly learning that these all electric systems are extremely sensitive and need a very clean and stable voltage path.
