Brief Description:  Painting Interior begins!

Well I finally put paint to metal on the interior. I had a couple of hours of taping to do first around the firewall; I am not painting the stainless firewall. I am spraying two colors, silver and dark grey; both are Rustoleum with a hammered finish. I like the hammered finish because it will minimize reflections and it has the added benefit of hiding small imperfections. The silver is for the baggage areas and the front cockpit floor. I liked the look of the dark grey but thought it was too dark for seeing into the baggage areas so I decided to use silver there. That led me to use silver for the front floor since it made painting easier.

I first sprayed all of the silver then after it set up enough I covered the silver and sprayed the dark grey. I found it difficult to get the spray can at an angle that allowed me to get under the various armrests and angles, so I rolled the fuselage upside down and was able to get a better angle. The nice part is the stuff sets up to the touch in about 15 min so after 30 or so you can actually tape over the fresh paint. It seems to be tougher than the powder coating. When I was taking the tape off of one of the gear weld mounts the power coating came off with the tape so I will need to pick up some touch up from Van’s

I intended to not spray areas that could not be seen but the angles on the lower floor under the consoles should have been painted, it would just look better, I had taped over them so I will have to tape up and paint them with a light coat so they don’t stand out so bad. Next I will paint the seat backs and rear floors all of which will get dark grey then the baggage floors will be silver.
