Brief Description:  Install "eyball" lights to 804 caps

Well Happy New Year. In my quest to get the cockpit painted I keep finding things I should do first. One is riveting the cooling ramp in place. There are nine rivets that go along the front of the lower cockpit floor; I really should do this before I paint. Well this opened up a new can of worms; there have been issues with vibrations from the exhaust causing cracks in the cooling ramp. I will need to research this before I attack this project.

I continued the cockpit preparation for paint by removing the left console and brace and the right 804 cap. I needed to cut a hole for some eyeball lights into the 804 caps before they were painted so that became my project for today. The eyeball light requires a ¾” hole so I centered this in the upper portion of each 804 cap. I then match drilled the 3 holes for mounting the light. The lights come with some small screw but I thought it would be better to install nut plates for some screws, so I installed the nut plates for #6 screws. I am using some stainless steel Torx screws. I then did a little bench test of the light. I added a photo but it seems dimmer in the photo than in real life. These lights will be great for night preflight since they will light up the area on either side which will be helpful to both front and rear pilots.

Since I had the squeezer out and set for the same rivets I riveted on the braces to the left and right console covers.
