Brief Description: Drilled left longeron for console cover
Drilled, deburred and then made countersinks for the 4 nut plates that will hold the left console in place. This proved to be more of a pain than one might think. First I could not use a countersink cage since the skin is already attached to the longeron. I did an OK job doing suicide countersinks but one hole is pretty ugly. Then I could not get the squeezer on the rivets, at first I thought I could but it set the rivets off just a bit due to no being able to get the set flush with the top of the rivet. So I drilled these rivets out and decided to buck the rivets. I still had difficulty because I could not get the flush set solidly on the rivet. Two of the nut plates are OK, not pretty but will hold just fine, but the other two were a mess. I drilled them out and called it a day. I ordered some blind rivets the correct size and will set the other nut plates with them.
I had to use a one lug nut plate in one area the plans call for a normal K1000 nut plate. You can see in the picture that the second lug would have interfered with the double angle below. I even thought a blind rivet would have problems so I drilled for the one lug nut plate.
Nut plate holes drilled and two set. Test fitting rear rudder pedal idler arm
Used one lug due to interference with the double below.
