Brief Description:  Primed and riveted flap brace and gap seal

I have been putting off some of the priming until I had a good batch of parts to prime. I primed the inside of the push rod tubes, and the flap brace and gap seals. The tubes took some doing. I first tried to spray the inside of the tubes with a technique I read about. I sprayed the primer and at the same time I shot air into the tube, the idea being I would move the primer down through the tube. I did not like how it was turning out so I taped off one end of the tube and poured primer in as I rolled the tube. This seemed to work real well. I think I will spray some Corrosion X in the tube before I install the bearing as an additional corrosion protection.

After the primer was dry I had to counter sink the three holes on the root end of the flap brace, these holes get countersunk cherry rivets. I forgot to do this before I primed so I had to use a Q-Tip to prime the countersink part of the holes. I am not sure why they call for counter sunk cherry rivets; the plans call for universal head rivets for the slow build wing. I had to use blind rivets due to access issues with the QB wings. The plans for the QB wing call for MSP-42 rivet for all of the rear spar attach holes except the last three holes at the root end. Once prime was dry on the countersinks I riveted on the brace. This was real easy with the pneumatic pop riveter I picked up a few months back at Harbor Freight tools. I can see how appealing the RV-12 will be for folks since it is all pop rivets. Tomorrow I will tackle the push rod ends. My pitot is on the way so I will be working that area as well. I am waiting on a ream to finish up the aileron bell cranks, the ream is cheaper than paying the local machinist to do the work.
