Brief Description:  Drilled holes in W-816 push rods

I accomplished three main things today. I deburred the holes in the rear spar that attach the gap seat and flap brace. Some of them took a little doing to get to, one of the difficulties of the quick build wings. The other item I accomplished was to countersink the holes in the left and right flap brace, the brace is too thick to dimple. The last thing I did was drill the holes in the W-816 push rods.

I first lined up the tube jig on the drill press. I used a laser level that I have to get things all lined up. I then drilled the six holes in each end to #40. These will be guide holes; I will drill them to full size when I drill the bearing holder. After drilled everything to #40 I deburred all of the holes and marked each bearing holder so that I get them in the correct end of the tube.

One other event occurred today; I had a builder from the EAA chapter come over and look over my work. Our Technical Counselor is out of town for the next month and he suggested I call Scott over. Scott is flying an RV-6A he finished last year. He also judges each year at the NW Fly-in in Arlington. He looked over all of my tail surfaces and the little work I have done on the wings. I was concerned about dome of the rivets on the aileron brackets. I mashed the sides of the one of them and was not sure if it would pass muster. Scott said they were fine; nice and strong, I could drill it out if I cared about the cosmetics, which I don’t, it stayed in. However in our inspection, I actually found one of my shop heads with what looked like a crack so that one came out, after getting it out and taking a look at the stem I am not sure it was cracked, oh well. Scott thought my work was good, and thought I had nice attention to the details.
