Brief Description:  Riveted on left mid spar aileron bracket

I only had a couple of hours in the shop this evening, I am making these entries a few days after the fact and I can’t remember why I spent so little time today but oh well. I drilled the aileron attach brackets to the rear spar and tip rib. After deburring the holes I started to rivet the middle bracket. This turned out to be a real pain. As usual the pain in the butt stuff is when I actually have to buck the rivets. I could reach two of the rivets with the squeezer but had to buck the others. To make matters worse the straight rivet set I have was too short to reach past the bracket so I used the double offset rivet set. I had a few problems as usual. For one the rivet seemed to take a lot to set, which is why the heads look so beaten up, well this is partly due to me not taping over the rivet set. The other problem I had was the tungsten bucking bar which is great but it has a small surface and a sharp edge, so if the bar gets away from you like it did me you can crease the rivet head pretty severely. I will have to drill out at least one rivet and reset it due to the tolerances not being met. There is another one I have a question about, but I will have to think about it for a while.

I decided to call it a day after this frustration and placed an order for a 4” yoke which should allow me to use the squeezer on more of the holes. I also ordered a long straight rivet set; I figure not having the offset will allow the gun to hit the rivet more directly. I am using 60psi, so I don’t think pressure is my problem.
