Brief Description:  Drilled EGT hole in exhaust

I was still feeling jet lagged so I did not get to the hangar for very long today. I am ready to reinstall the exhaust now that the filter box is done but I needed to drill the holes for the EGT probes. The instructions call for drilling the hole to 1/8”. When I tried to test fit the probe it would not fit, so I used a caliper to check the size and it was .129 which is closer to a #30 bit. So I drilled up to that size and the probe went in but still took some effort, but once past the tip I went if easy.

It was then I saw that the tip of the prop was larger but the base was in fact 1/8”. On the next two holes I left the hole at 1/8” but pushed hard on the probe and it did finally go in, this gives a tighter fit at the base of the probe. There is a wide flange at the base of the probe so my slightly bigger hole on the first two should be fine but I will check with some experts.

I am ready to install the filter box for good but I don’t have a way to torque the pinch bolt on the ring that holds the box to the fuel control. This is kind of critical because some who have done this wrong have had the filter box fall off the fuel control inlet and this leads to a severe loss of power or worse kills the engine if it blocks the air flow entirely. So I will be off to tool hunt tomorrow.
