Brief Description:  Fit wing tip ribs

I re-fit the right tip and then began work on the gap needed for paint. I did my best to set a gap as I drilled but it needed to be refined. I then remembered the hack saw idea; the width of the blade is the same as the recommended gap for paint. I don’t know why I worried so much about setting the gap as I drilled. It is very easy though time consuming to just run the hacksaw along the seam to get a nice gap.

Next up was the aft rib that supports the tip. You just fit it in place then layout a hole patter and then drill. Simple, except for me, I had to look and measure a million time before I was done. The instructions say to set the rivet line 5/16” from the edge but some of the rivets run up near the flange of the main part of the tip and this leaves not much room for the counter sink for the rivet. The flange on the rib is wide so I used 11/32” for a gap. The ribs are now drilled to the tips.

I spent the last bit of time drilling a reinforcement strip made of aluminum to the wing flange. This will help support the nut plates that will go along here. I have one wing tip done and still need to complete the other side. The strip also needs to be trimmed since it interferes with the aft rib which I just fit.
