Brief Description:  Elevator rigging and more glass work

I only worked a partial day today, it is forecast to get up to 90 today and that means the hanger will be 10 degrees hotter than that. I went in a little earlier than usual but I had some computer based training to do for work so I went home and did that this afternoon.

I sanded the layup I did yesterday to the horizontal stab tips then laid up two more layers of cloth to the inside as well as fill the outside. Hopefully this will get them close and after drilling for rivets I can make one last fill then final finish the tips.

The lower hole in the elevator horn is off slightly, if one elevator is even with the horizontal stab the other is up by 3/32”, I started to agonize over this until I read my log entry from 3 years ago, when I consulted builder support I was told this will be fine and to fly it. This is something I can initially fly with and if I get any slight rolling due to the uneven elevators I can always weld up and re-drill the lower push rod hole then. Since the plane is hand built there can but other errors and I might get lucky and have them cancel each other out.

On the less than loose movement of my elevator, I was able to look at a neighbor RV-9 and my elevator movement is actually lighter than his and he has had no issue with his plane so I think I am golden here. There are the purists that brag on line about how smooth their elevators travel is but I think I will go with what builder support recommended.
