Brief Description:  1. More fuel sender tests

I began the day trying to find out why my fuel senders seem to have a dead spot. I have a Van’s fuel gauge on hand that I will not use since my EFIS has fuel gages built into them. The gauge would not read anything until I moved the fuel sender past the dead band then it jumps to 2.5 gal remaining, this seemed to confirm the dead band. I tried to clean the contact points on the sender and test it again with the multi-meter. It was then I realized my problem was self induced. I had the meter set at “200” instead of “2k”. At 200 it would not read anything above 200 ohm the empty send of the sender goes up to 240 ohms. Oddly yesterday when testing the first reading I would get was 196 ohm! I tested both senders with the new setting and they work just fine through the full range. I am not sure why the Van’s gauge was jumpy but since I am not suing it I don’t care.

My EFIS will be calibrated by adding 2 gal at a time. As long as the sender gives a number (which it appears to do) it will remember that number and provide an accurate fuel quantity.
