Brief Description:  1. Heat valve cable support

I spent the first couple of hours on design work; I had to find a place for the heat control and the Purge Valve cables. I am going to use the hole that is pre cut in the firewall that was for the brake fluid reservoir. There is also a ¾ inch hole in the side that I wanted to use for the heat cable but the cable needs to anchor too close to the hole for this to work.

I came up with a bracket design that will serve two purposes, it will be the anchor point for the heat valve cable and it will also support a standoff for fuel line that is part of the purge return system. This part of the firewall is busy with all the cable, heat valve and fuel lines.

A little about the purge valve; when the purge valve is open fuel bypasses the fuel spider (hence the engine) and gets returned to a point in the right tank supply line. This is used to cut off the engine but also lets you circulate the hot fuel out and bring in new cool fuel on those hot start type days. Hot starts can be a problem with some fuel injection systems; the AFP system illuminates that issue.

I plumbed the return line to the lower part of the firewall but the purge valve is at the top of the engine, so my plan is run a line aft to the firewall, run this line parallel to the oil sender supply line to the lower port in center of the Vans Sensor Manifold. The line you see supported in the picture runs down to the fitting at the lower end of the firewall. The most outboard part of the manifold will be for the fuel pressure sender. The vertical part of the bracket I made today supports a cable anchor; the heat cable will come from the cabin side through a hole (to be drilled) that will be below the heat box which will then make a gentle loop to this anchor, the picture was taken with me holding the cable in the rough location.
