Brief Description:  Re-installed OFA

Wow 5 days and no real time building but I have been learning. I have been trying to figure out what types of goop to use when installing various things on the engine. Today I figured I learned enough to get some work done.

I had already removed the vacuum pad stud and the new one have come in but before installing them I wanted to get the big -8 fitting that send the oil to the cooler installed. I settled on Permatex 2 Form a Gasket as a sealant, I have some other stuff I will try on other fittings, then I figure over time I will learn what works best. There is also something called ‘Tite Seal” but I could not find it locally so I will get it with my next ACS order.

Next up was to re-install the oil filter adapter with the 1.4” extension I received from B&C. I looked into having my longer spacer milled down but it was going to cost nearly as much. I used a trick I learned at the Mattituck engine build demonstration I attended over a year ago to coat the gaskets with EZ lube, it helps them stay in place when installing and make removal easy. Use a solid roller, wall paper seam roller in my case. Roll EZ lube on to a flat surface lay on the gasket and roll lube on the top.

After installing the OFA, I test fit the SD20 alternator and sure enough it will fit just fine. The OFA adapter went from 2.5” to 1.4”. This still lets the oil filter clear the engine mount, this alone does not fix everything, I had to get and extension to move the alternator back ¾”. You can see in the pictures that it just clears.
