Well so far it looks like my idea is going to work just fine. I riveted on the bracket and ran the wires from the switches to the Molex connector making sure there was no interference. I wrapped the wires in snake skin for anti chaff protection. I am using two Zip tie anchor points to hold the wires out of the way of one of the nut plates that hold the CB panel to the console. I did not use the foam backing that comes with these anchors; instead I have some super duty double sided stuff I found at the electronic store, stuff is good to 180 degrees which is more than this area should ever see. I definitely would not use the foam backing that comes with these things; I can just peel it right off.
I trimmed and crimped all of the Molex pins and installed them onto the connector. About the time I was done it was time to leave for my monthly EAA chapter meeting so I took the panel and console along to our Technical Counselor to get his advice. As luck would have it we had a guest speaker from the local collage A&P program. I asked his advice on how I had set up this panel and he said it looked fine, he saw some zip ties holding wires and made a comment but I showed him that the wires under the snake skin where lace tied and that the zip ties are just keepers until I am happy with the wire positions, then everything will get ties with lacing string. His final comment after looking at my labels and switches was “very professional”. How cool is that!
This is what it will look like behind the panel when closed
Now wire need to go from the CB to the other side of the connector
