I wanted to make a quick log entry for yesterdays work before I go to work today. I did the labels for the right console. After doing both black and white labels so far, I can say the white is much more finicky to work with. My first decal was perfect but I applied it off axis so I took it off to be redone. Then every label I tried after the first one failed in the water bath, the letters floated off, that is until the last one, which was for the middle 3 switches. It took me 45 minutes to run to Kinko’s to make new copies onto the transfer paper but this gave me time to think more about my process.
I decided I was leaving it in the water bath too long; sure enough when I got home every label I made came out fine. I am sure it had more to do with the fact that I made 3 copies of the labels thinking I might have more failures. Well it seems for the white about 75 to 90 seconds is the magic amount of time in the water bath.
I had to touch up with paint some blemishes and then I sprayed some clear coat on. After it set up I installed the switches, turned out nice if I do say so myself; now this wire-dog has to get back to work.
