Brief Description: Fly Cutter & fixture for cutting lightening holes
I made up a 1/4" dowel to fit my 3/16" piloted flycutter by grinding one end of a hardened dowel pin down to fit in the hole.
I took a piece of hardwood plywood, drilled a 1/4" hole on the drill press, and then clamped that piece to the table to act as the pilot hole. Using the dowel on the flycutter should make it last longer.
I am using a 3/8" variable speed drill. First line up the hole, then add the clamps. Cut slow to start and after marking the part add some cutting oil, I used 3 drops Tap Magic.
