Brief Description:  3rd Flight Test & GPS Tracker

Flight Test 3 – 2 Hr Duration
7/30/10

OAT 82 Deg F
AC CG=79.01” (Forward limit is 78”)
At rotation: Max RPM 2680
Climbed to 2500 ft at FT and 2600 RPM, (90 mph IAS) resulting in ~2000 FPM climb rate.
Continued climb to 3500 ft, leveled off with FT (26”/2400 RPM) (82% Pwr).
Leaned to 1300 EGT (~125 rich of peak)
IAS stabilized at 154 MPH and TAS 173 MPH. Fuel flow was 11.5 gph.
CHT’s stabilized between 398 to 365 (hi to lo), OT stable at 181 Deg F.

Ran race track between UAO and MMV, then between Twin Oaks to UBG VOR to UAO.
Air still very rough today, making stabilized flight difficult. Successfully reset EFIS Pitch Ladders to mid screen target point while in level flight.

Checked NAV radio function to BTG & UBG VOR’s and the UAO LOC. CDI functions agree within 2 Deg of each other.

Turned on Navaid Devices Autopilot and switched on Wing Leveler function. Turned airplane right and left with AP turn knob. AP held steady heading in the rough air.

At 1.5 hrs, flew over Mulino Airport and performed full flap approach to stall at 50 mph and tried to set EFIS synthesized AOA calibration. However found it difficult to establish stable flight at the edge of stall given the rough air, and capture an accurate AOA calibration. Decided to turn off the EFIS AOA function until smoother conditions.

Trimmed final approach for 70 mph with full flaps and found it took full nose up trim to balance out pitch stick force. This is not surprising, given the forward most CG flight condition. Made full flap landing and 3rd greaser touchdown! I’m starting to believe it really is that easy!!!

Next, pull cowls, thoroughly inspect engine compartment, change the oil, install fuel pump cover, and add the rest of the gear fairings.

I found an interesting Andriod App called “GPS Tracker”, which when turned on, records position reports to your account at: http://www.instamapper.com. On the website, when you click on each yellow dot, it displays your speed, altitude and heading. Very cool! It’ll m
