After repeated light bulb failures (3) with only a few power cycles on them, I gave up. I twisted & pulled out the back of bulb socket (black portion), drilled a 1/8" hole through the black base, and threaded a red LED through the base. Then stuck the base back into the red lens portion, and wahla.... it's now LED powered and works perfectly.
