Brief Description:  Gleim Excavating - Part I

The excavation part of the Big Dig took Gleim Excavating all of 3 hours to unload the backhoe, dig the ramp, and load the backhoe back onto the trailer. Amazing!

My biggest worry over the years has been bedrock. I watched my neighbor put an addition onto his house and it took a solid week to dig the basement using a massive backhoe with a jack-hammer attachment. The road out front is not called Slate Hill Road for nothing!

US15 is also under construction just around the corner from us and they also hit slate and had to do a bunch of blasting to get through it.

I had nightmares of not being able to dig this plane out without using dynamite, jack-hammers, and a huge pile of money.

As it turned out all of my worries were for naught. There was a little vein of slate but it was heavily fractured and had the right slope to it that it was no problem for the excavator to break through it.
