Brief Description:  Before Pictures - Prep Work

I had a heck of a time deciding on whether to dig my plane out this year or next. We refinanced our house this year and the gentleman who brought the papers over for us to sign said he used to build houses. When I took him down to the basement to show him the work that I needed done to get my airplane out he was amazed and excited to take on the project. His name is Aaron Marshall and he had all the contacts. I received some very attractive bids that Aaron arranged with Gleim excavating and DB Masonry. Together they were half of other bids that I had done over the years.

But even so, knowing that I had some very good bids, good contractors, had a hangar that I leased back in October that was sitting empty, I still had some serious reservations about moving ahead this year. Mostly because of the money involved and my worries about the economy falling apart. This will eat up my savings outside of what I have in my 401K.

But, on the plus side, the plane out of the basement is worth more than the plane in the basement, and likewise if I ever had to sell the house if I lost my job or something, I'm sure it would be easier to sell without a plane sitting in the basement.

So, all things considered, after 9 years of building, I signed the contracts and today, Monday, 5/23/2011 is the start of a very exciting and nerve-wracking week.

The prep work I had to do involved cutting down a large Magnolia tree and 3 bushes and hauling them to the township refuse pile, cleaning the basement, turning my airplane around so I could pull it out rather than backing it out, and putting a package together for the township to get the demolition permit.

Everything went very smoothly except turning the plane around. With the engine, prop, and spinner on, there wasn't enough room to do a 180. It took a couple of days, a lot of help from Heather and David, and the removal of the spinner and my water heater to get the thing turned around as you see it below.
