Brief Description:  New Nose Gear Leg and Fork Arrive from Van's

Today was kind of a good news / bad news day. First, the good news. My new nose wheel fork and gear leg arrived from Van's today. Boy was I excited to see that small wooden crate on the porch today!

The bad news is that that the new gear leg isn't powder coated for some reason. I was pissed. I sent an email to Van's asking them about it and they replied with some lame excuse that they have no way of ensuring that the MY specific nose leg that was match-drilled to MY engine mount or old gear leg in this case, wouldn't get mixed up with someone elses nose gear leg as it went out for powder coating. That's BS. There are a couple of holes in the leg that don't get powder coated that could be used for tags for this purpose,,,or how about powder coating them BEFORE match drilling. Totally sucks.

I called around and found a local shop that will powder coat the leg for $80. Yikes, more money. I guess I should have had my old leg modified rather than ordering a new leg. Wish I knew this ahead of time. Anyway, I took my new gear leg over to the powder coating shop and will have to wait another week before I can install it. Bummer.

On a positive note, the new leg and fork are several pounds lighter than the old setup. More clearance and less weight are definitely huge advantages but this was an expensive ordeal.
