Brief Description:  Remove Nose Gear Leg and Ship to Van's

I decided I'll just purchase a new nose gear leg from Van's rather than having my old leg diced and sliced. Anyway, once I had the tail tied down and the nose off the ground, I slid 3 saw horses wrapped in some carpeting under the engine mount for added support and safety.

Given how difficult it was to install the nose gear into the engine mount I knew it was going to be a bear getting it back out. Removing the stainless steel cover plug in the firewall and the bolt securing the leg to the mount was no problem. However, trying to rotate the leg out of the mount was nearly impossible. I ended up removing the nose wheel fork and inserting a steel rod into the hollow end of the gear leg for extra leverage. Even this didn't work,,,I couldn't budge it for the life of me. Great. I decided to spray some WD-40 into the upper and lower races and wait for it to sink in. Wow, what a difference! When I came back to it with the steel leverage rod it rotated very easily and really didn't need it. I was able to rotate the leg out of the mount easily by hand. Whew, what a relief!

Now it is just a matter of shipping the old leg back to Van's so they can match-drill a new leg for me and paying my money for a new fork, leg, and brackets.
