Next I installed all of the upper firewall cleco's again along with the full left and right side hinges. The upper cowl was then reinstalled now that the aft edge has been trimmed. The fit came out very nice! I marked a reference line on the cowl in order to hit the center of the hinges while drilling. For now I removed 4 cleco's and used a ruler to align the rivet holes in the cowl with the corresponding holes in the forward top skin / firewall flange. These 4 holes were then drilled in the upper cowl and piano hinges to temporarily secure the upper cowl in place while fitting the lower cowl. I won't drill all of the remaining holes until everything fits nicely and to allow for some minor repositioning if needed.
