Brief Description:  Ream / Bolt U-403 Brake Brackets to Gear

Since my Aero Sport Power O-320 will be coming soon I decided to start working on the landing gear. The plans are not very detailed as far as showing how the brake mounting brackets, calipers, and wheel pant brackets go together.I spent a little time cleaning up the non-powder coated axles and protecting them with LPS-3. I also had to remove some of excess powder coating that had gotten on the insides of the U-403 brake mounting brackets so they would slide onto the axles. Also, I used a 0.311 reamer to enlarge the holes in the bracket for the special Allen head bolts that are used to secure these brackets to the gear legs.I decided not to attach the U810 wheel pant mounting brackets until after my engine is broken in and after I have my phase 1 hours flown off. The extra drag from not having the gear leg fairings and wheel pant fairings installed will help slow things down while the engine is running all out during the break in period. I thought about just installing the mounting brackets but not the fairings to save having to remove the wheels and calipers later but when others have done this their brackets have cracked. Once I had the U-403 brake mounting brackets bolted to the gear legs I realized that the caliper brackets will eventually bolt to the outboard face of the U-403 brackets. I won't be able to slide the caliper brackets against the U-403 with that Allen bolt in the way. Oh well, no big deal. I want to replace those nylon stop nuts with all metal stop nuts anyway,
