Brief Description:  Countersink Flap Spars for Piano Hinges

I decided to cut the flap hinges to length. When I did the first one, I wasn't thinking and I ended up cutting the pin to the same length as the hinge itself. This doesn't allow any extra length of pin to bend over and secure later when I install the flap. I think I will purchase a new pin while at Oshkosh. Either that or I may get lucky. A lot of people remove 3 center links of each flap hinge and then cut the pin in half. This allows each half of the hinge pin to be inserted from the middle of the hinge since there isn't room to insert the flap hinge pin from the fuselage end or from the aileron end unless you cut a hole in one of the aileron attach brackets. I will probably do the center thing, and may end up having enough of this pin left over after cutting it in half to bend each piece over and secure it to the wing. I ended up leaving the other pin full length. Once the hinges were cut to length, I clecoed them back to their respective spars and then drilled them again to a piece of wood and reclecoed everything to the wood. This allowed me to countersink the spars by having enough support for the pilot of the countersinking bit through the hinge and holes in the wood.
