Brief Description: Seat Floors: Cut/Drill Hinges and Pins
Today I started working on the seat floors. First I cut all of the hinges to length. I decided to position the hinges 3/8" more inboard than what is specified in the plan's. I did this because several other builders have had interference problems with the outboard edges of the seatbacks and the canopy frame. They recommended moving the seats inboard. I also read that the Quickbuild kits have the hinges mounted further inboard. The only thing that I'm worried about is now clearing the flap center section area. Time will tell if I just swapped one problem for another. Anyway, I pre-drilled the hinges and then measured where to locate them on the seat pans. Once they were clamped where I wanted them I drilled the hinges to the seat pans. I then took everything apart and used the bandsaw to remove the center eyelett's of each hinge. I also cut and bent 4 hinge pins that will be inserted from the center of each hinge where the eyeletts were removed. The hinges and pins were then deburred and edge prepped.
