Today was a total waste. I fabricated the F684 gussets exactly according to the plans, including predrilling all of the holes. However, when I went to fit the gussets to the fuselage, I quickly realized that they wouldn't work. I need to reorder and remake these. There wouldn't be enough edge distance on the firewall angle using the holes that I predrilled in the gussets as a guide. Lesson learned. The plans are a guide when it comes to fabricating parts. They can be shaped but the drilling should be done in assembly and not necessarily based on the measurements in the plans to insure that all edge distances are sufficient. This is such a critical area too. It's a no brainer that these gussets will need to be remade. Oh well, live and learn.
