Brief Description:  F705 Bulkhead: Fabricate Parts

For the tip up canopy the plans call for fabricating 2 large reinforcement angles. These will get riveted to the top corners of the F705 bulkhead. Each bracket will eventually need to have an oblong hole cut in them for the canopy latches. The outer edges of each bracket are tappered to match the outline of the bulkhead. Once these were cut out, there were several other parts to fabricate for the top of the bulkhead - 2 long narrow shims .063, 2 angles, and 2 .040 plates. These just needed to be cut to length from stock pieces except for the 2 .040 plates. The plans indicate that these plates need to be bent 4 degrees along the length of their center lines. I wasn't quite sure how to do this. My homemade wood bending brake that I used to bend the trailing edges of some of the control surfaces certainly wouldn't work for such a thick and narrow piece. I ended up clamping the .040 strips between 2 angles and then securing the contraption in my vice. Now, what to bend the top over with...
