Brief Description:  Completed Front Spar

The pre-drilled front spar components sure make life easy! I used a hack saw to taper the ends of the HS-710 and HS-714 splice angles. Then I used the 1in. belt sander and Scothbrite wheel to clean things up. I used a protractor to measure the 6 degree bend in the tabs. This wasn't too difficult in a vice but I was a little nervous about doing it. The inner most holes on the HS-710 and HS-714 needed to be countersunk and the corresponding holes on the front spar channels dimpled for later attachment to the fuselage. Van's did a great job of removing the flanges on the front spar channels. Too bad they were done to fit the RV-8. An additional inch or so of the flanges had to be removed before bending the HS-702 front spar channels. I did an OK job by following the directions in the manual but certainly not as nice as what was done at the factory.
