The next step was to pull the horizontal stabilizer down from the ceiling and clean off the dust. I then strapped it securely to the workbench and temporarily installed the elevators. Thank goodness for my bolt installation tool! It made easy work of sliding the bolts through the brackets and bearings. I quickly discovered that the elevator arms would not swing past the outboard edges of the horizontal stabilizer skins. I had to trim the HS skins to provide sufficient clearance for the elevator arm travel. Once this was done, the manual says to determine which elevator was more aft. In my case it was the right elevator. So, I removed the right elevator and then pilot drilled the bottom hole that will eventually be used to attach the pushrod. This was drilled to #30 at a measured position. The next step will be to tranfer the position of this hole to the left elevator control horn. Tomorrow...
