Brief Description:  Roll and Rivet Leading Edges

Philip helped me roll and rivet the leading edges of both elevators this afternoon. Philip worked the pipe wrench and I worked to keep the pipe flat and straight during the rolls and to prevent creases along the spars. Bending and massaging everything in place was a challenge. I used a wooden dowel along the inside of this rolled edge to force the skins tightly together while Philip pulled the pop rivets. I decided to double up the rivets because the two rolled edges had small waves between the relatively sparcely spaced rivets since the edges didn't mesh as smoothly as I would have liked. I used the rivet spacing fan to mark where the additional rivets would go. These holes were then drilled and riveted together. This tightened everything up and made for a much smoother edge. The leading edges look pretty good until you look through the holes on the ends - they aren't really that symmetrical. I don't think this matters at all but still, I wish it were perfect!
