Brief Description:  Connect Aileron Trim Wires to Sub-Panel Cable

I had a heck of a time trying to wire the aileron trim servo. The servo is mounted in the center tunnel underneath the elevator push tube. The 5 wires on the servo were way too short to work on without either removing the servo or the push tube. I'm not sure why I would have ever installed the servo without connecting those wires first but I did.

I tried to remove the servo but I couldn't get to the lower mounting screws so I reinstalled the upper screws and decided to leave the servo in place and remove the elevator push tube instead. This turned out to be very easy since I hadn't installed nuts on the rod end bearings yet. I slipped the bolts out on both ends and then slid the push tube aft to open up enough room in the tunnel to connect the servo wires.

Once I had enough room to work I connected the 5 wires from the servo to the corresponding 5 wires in the Ray Allen cable that I had routed to the sub-panel. I made the butt splices exactly like I did for the headsets and microphones using D-Sub pins with shrink tubing over each individual wire and then over the entire bundle. This makes a very nice thin connection that won't pull apart but is still removeable. All I would need to do is slice off the heat shrink and pull the pins apart.

The 5-conductor cable that is routed to the sub-panel will connect to one of the relays to handle the interaction of the switches on both sticks.
