After my RV-14 friend had a fire from overheated brakes during a compass swing, I decided to install a McMaster-Carr Spring Assembly to my brake pistons. The intent of this spring assembly is to apply back pressure to the cylinder after it is depressed to prevent the brakes from ‘dragging’. I sequestered my son-in-law into installing these four assemblies onto the brake pistons on the brake/rudder pedals. I also installed AntiSpat Aero RV-7 Rudder Pedal Extensions which will help prevent my ‘fat feet’ from accidentally pushing on the brakes when I only intend to press on the rudder pedal. Both these additions should work very well to prevent the brakes from dragging and applying rudder without brakes.
