Brief Description:  Cut Outboard Baffle and Floor-Baffle Flanges

Right now, in order to mark the front baffles, the bottom cowl can only be raised a portion of the way it needs to be in it’s final position. I know I have to keep the back of the cowling vertically and horizontally aligned with the attaching points on the fuselage. You can see in the first picture, the cowling is about 3 inches lower than it should be, but to mark the baffle flanges it is vertically aligned with the fuselage and the Skybolt fasteners. Last night, I figured out a potential solution to mark the floor-baffles for trimming. I removed the starter gear and spinner flange and the side baffles (CB-1009A & CB-1003A). Next, I removed the clecos holding the front-floor baffles (CB-710A & CB-1002A) to clear the bottom cowl. I raised to bottom cowl over top of the front-floor baffles but found I had to trim off about 2” just to get the cowl in place. After repeating this process 3 times, I finally got the cowl to clear the floor-baffles enough to mark an approximate cut-of line. I marked a line then extended it by 3/8” forward to allow for error in final cowl position, then made the cuts. Finally, I need to cut the outboard edges of the floor-baffles at an angle that aligns with the outboard edge of the curved lower-cowl intakes. This too will be a little tricky, due to the fact that I have allow for a 45-degree bend in the bottom flanges. I’m just winging it now, but I think both the floor-baffles are now marked close to where they should be (see pic #2). I’ll make these initial cuts and call it a day. These baffles are incredibly time consuming, but at least I think I have somewhat of an idea on how to proceed.
