With some regularity I seem to encounter parts that only make sense to me after fabrication. I hesitate to admit it, but the wing jigs were such parts. It's not that they are that complex, but they do have some unique angles and precise measurements to mirror the business end of the actual wings -- the parts that attach to the body of the airplane. Getting them complete was a kick, because they slid right in place, and then I had one of those "ah-ha" moments about relative spacing and angles of the wing attachment points which will be automatically and perfectly set in relation to one another because of these nifty parts I just made. When the jig is in place, the center spar and rear frame channel have no choice but to be put in their correct positions. My confidence in the next phase of the project just took a major jump up tonight. My thanks again to Terry Dowell for letting me use his kit parts to complete this. It saved me some substantial $ for the two long webs that are .090" thick. A 4'x4' sheet of this thickness of 6061T6 is over $95. What Terry gets out of the deal is completed wing jigs that took over 6 hours to fabricate. Good for him...good for me. NOTE OF INTEREST: The Zenith supplied rear channel pieces are supposed to be 200mm long and the vertical dimension is set at 106mm. For some reason, the ones Terry received were on 102.5mm across the web. I used two that I previously made to specs, but I would encourage other builders to check this dimension.
